A review of the US-DOE/UK-AEA/CEGB Agreement for Exchange of Gas-Cooled Reactor Graphite Technology was conducted at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority offices in London, England. This agreement, signed in August 1988, is focused on seven specific technical areas of cooperation in graphite technology. An exchange of documents is in progress, to be followed by a meeting of technical coordinators in the April/May 1989 time period. At James Howden & Company Limited in Glasgow, Scotland, the authors reviewed work on magnetic bearing gas circulators for the Modular High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (MHTGR) being performed by Howden for the US-DOE program under contract with General Atomics. Discussions of the COMEDIE Program being conducted by the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (CEA) under subcontract with Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc., were held in Paris and Grenoble, France. The COMEDIE loop at CEA's Siloe reactor in Grenoble is being utilized to perform tests on fission product behavior for the MHTGR program.
