It is important in perturbative QCD calculations to estimate the errors due to uncalculated higher order corrections. An inappropriate choice of the renormalization and factorization scales can lead to unnecessarily large higher order corrections. A method for systematically investigating these issues is suggested. it involves examining the integrands of Feynman graphs as a function of (kappa)(sub (perpendicular)). A rationale for choosing a sensible range of the scale parameter(s) is suggested. A by product is a physical interpretation of the scales in the MS and (ovr MS) schemes. 8 refs., 5 figs.
