摘要

The Simon Fraser AMS spectrometer operated at McMaster University for a period of about 10 years. This instrument was unique in that the isotope beams of interest were injected into the accelerator simultaneously rather than sequentially, using an achromatic multi-magnet injector. As well, our group has also been involved in the design and operation of the LLNL spectrometer, which uses a more conventional fast pulsing sequential system. We compare our first- hand experience with the two systems and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the different approaches. 7 refs., 6 figs.
