Solar radiation control coatings reduce maximum temperatures in exposed storage drums

Waste drums stored outdoors for long periods have been developed swelling and pinhole leaks. Changes within the contents of the drum may cause deterioration; one possible cause of such changes is an elevated storage temperature. Test results of the effect of six different exterior surface finishes on the interior temperatures of drums during solar exposure are presented. The peak interior temperatures of the exposed drums were reduced by (ge) 40(degrees)F through the use of selected solar radiation control coatings.
