摘要

The report first describes the test method employing a precompressed round bar subjected to impact loading to initiate a cleavage fracture. The procedure to convert strain measurement into dynamic initiation toughness is described. Also, the results of a fractographic analysis are correlated with the features observed on the strain-time traces, and techniques used to distinguish initiation by either cleavage or ductile tearing are presented.
