Influence of upstream material on the performance of an electromagnetic calorimeter inside a magnetic field

The deterioration of the calorimeter response to electrons in the presence of upstream materials has been investigated inside a magnetic field. Data for different absorber thickness, distances and electron energies are compared to Monte Carlo calculations. Results are extended to the geometrical situation of a typical collider detector.
