Synthesis and Structure-Property Correlation of Perfluoropolyalkylether BaseFluids

Monomers for the preparation of the partially fluorinated model fluids weresynthesized and limited investigations were carried out on their reactions. Direct fluorination processes were explored. A series of commercial and experimental perfluoropolyalkylether fluids was fully characterized and their thermal oxidative behavior in the presence of M-5O bearing steel alloy was determined. Computational treatments based on molecular mechanics, the input from the experimental data, and regression analysis led to the development of Quantitative Structure/Activity (Property) Relationships (QSAR). The developed expressions permit predictions, without synthesis of the candidate materials, of thermal oxidative stability, viscosity, viscosity/temperature and viscosity/ molecular weight profiles.
