Evaluation of the Interactive Electronic Technical Manual/Automated Classroom(IETM/AC)

The Navy Personnel Research and Development Center (NPRDC), working with theNaval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Chief of Naval Education and Training (CNET), completed a program of research, development, and evaluation for automating classroom activities in which interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs) are used. The project addressed two Navy training problems: (1) the need to utilize emerging technologies to improve maintenance performanoe and reduce maintenance costs and (2) the need to improve the efficiency of the Navy training pipeline. These problems are being addressed by combining IETM technology with an integrated multimedia editing and delivery system.
