The second GeoComputation Conference (GeoComp 97) and the 9th Annual SpatialInformation Research Centre Colloquium (SIRC 97) have coalesced at Otago in 1997. It is an appropriate advance that the University of Leeds and the University of Otago combined these two events which are having an increasing impact on the geocomputing and spatial analysis communities. GeoComp 96 was held in Leeds and was a great success and 97 continues the tradition. The conference consists of over 40 research papers that are either presented orally or as a poster.
