This testimony discusses the Year 2000 computer compliance problem which couldcause potential failure of all government programs which provide benefits. GAO has developed a guide that constitutes a framework for agencies to assess their readiness for year 2000 compliance. This guide is divided into five phases; awareness assessment, renovation, validation, and implementation.
