Training-Task Paradigm to Meet the Operational and Training Needs of the FutureArmy

The post Cold War period has ushered in an military environment of uncertaintyand ambiguity. The current Soviet threat based, training strategy, force development, tactics and weapons design system must adapt quickly to meet the challenges of a smaller, power projection military with a broader mission profile. Today's training strategy is still based on the training task paradigm of the early 197Os. Future training strategies will require a task paradigm that is joint based and capable of training organizations across the spectrum of operations. This paper reviews the history of the Army's training task paradigms and recommends a future training task paradigm methodology based on a functional approach linked to the Army Universal Task List (AUTL).
