摘要

In 1992, Parsons ES(formerly Engineering-Science, Inc. ES), was contracted by AFCEE to conduct bioventing pilot testing at more than 135 Air Force sites to demonstrate the feasibility of this technology for remediating petroleum-contaminated vadose zone soils. Four key objectives were established for this initiative: (1) Document the effectiveness of bioventing technologies at remediating petroleum- contaminated soils in a variety of climatic, soil, and contaminant conditions. (2) Use these data to complete a bioventing principles and practices manual for use by the Air Force, the Department of Defense (DOD), the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and other interested agencies. (3) Promote regulatory and public acceptance of this technology. (4) Begin the process of remediating fuel-contaminated sites at Air Force facilities at minimum cost to the taxpayer.
