Transportation Support to Two Nearly Simultaneous Major Regional Conflicts--AnUnacceptable Scenario

Current U.S. military strategy calls for Two (Nearly Simultaneous) Major RegionalConflicts (2MRC). A serious question remains about the transportation systems ability to support this scenario. Granted, the Army has honed its skills over the last six years in twenty-five deployments; however, there is still need for robust strategic transportation capability although some equipment shortfalls have been addressed. During Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the U.S. had time to introduce combat forces and build a sustainment package. Regional and global commitment boosted U.S. ability to logistically support the Gulf War. An in-process reduction in forces was halted. If the U.S. supports one MRC at a Gulf War tempo, a second MRC may not ever receive the required support.
