C4ISR Architecture Working Group (AWG), Architecture Framework Version 2.0

The principal objective of this effort is to define a coordinated approach, i.e., a framework, for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) architecture development, presentation, and integration. Framework development is an evolutionary process. The first release of a defined framework, the C4ISR Architecture Framework, Version 1.0, was developed by the Integrated Architectures Panel of the C4ISR integration Task Force, and was published 7 June 1996. This report presents Version 2.0 of the Framework. Version 2.0 is an expansion and maturing of concepts presented in Version 1.0, and is based on recent community experience and inputs. The C4ISR Architecture Framework is intended to ensure that the architectures developed by the geographic and functional unified Commands, military Services, and defense Agencies are interrelatable between and among the organizations' operational, systems, and technical architecture views, and are comparable and integratable across Joint and multi-national organizational boundaries.
