Sexual Victimization and the Military Environment: Contributing Factors,Vocational, Psychological, and Medical Sequelae

The goal of this study was to determine military environmental factors associatedwith violence towards service women. A national sample of 558 women veterans completed a computer-assisted telephone interview assessing their experiences with in-military sexual harassment, unwanted sexual touching, physical assault and rape. Pre-military physical and sexual victimization events and demographic factors were additionally considered as risk factors for in-military violence. Vocational, health status, and psychological differences (including findings of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, alcohol dependence, and
