Compounds that can replace nerve agent inhibited AChE and hydrolyze acetylcholineare potentially useful for therapy of nerve agent intoxications. A commercially available antibody against phosphorylcholine, TEPC 15, was tested as a catalyst for acetylcholine hydrolysis, but showed only very low activity. Furthermore, the synthesis of O-(2-trimethylammonioethyl) O-hydrogen 2-aminoethylphosphonate is described. This compound resembles the negatively charged, tetrahedral transition state for the hydrolysis of acetylcholine and will be used to generate catalytic antibodies. These antibodies might be useful for the therapy of nerve agent intoxications.
