摘要

Hypoxemia is a complication that appears post operatively and may linger for several days. This hypoxemia can be due to either reduced Functional Residual Capacity (FRC), hypoventilation, or ventilation-perfusion mismatch. The persistence of ventilatory depression induced by anesthetics and neuromuscular blocking drugs can magnify the hypoxemia. Pulse oximetry allows for continuous indirect measurement of the oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin (Sa02). The purpose of this study is to determine the Sp02 during transport in patients who receive room air, and to determine if there is a difference in Sp02 in the operating room (OR)compared to Sp02 on arrival to the Postanesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
