Evolution of the Signal Corps Organization

With the ever increasing range of weaponry and speed of movement on thebattlefield, as well as the Army's increased participation in military operations other than war, the Signal Corps units organic to corps and below are not adequate to support the war fighter without the aid of specialized units, specifically designed to fill theater or strategic requirements. Since World War II, these units have grown in size and complexity. This has as much to do with the development of new technology, as it does with the ever increasing size of a given unit's area of operations. The purpose of this paper is to trace the organization of the Signal Corps units, both organic and specialized and how they supported the war fighter.
