Year 2000 Contingency Plans for Surface Ship Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Systems

The year 2000 problem is the term most often used to describe the potential failure of information technology systems to process or perform date-related functions before, on, or after the turn of the next century. The Assistant Secretary of Defense (Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence) issued the 'DoD Year 2000 Management Plan' in April 1997. The latest version was released in January 1999. The DoD Y2K Management Plan provides the overall DoD strategy and guidance for inventorying, prioritizing, repairing or retiring systems, and monitoring Y2K progress. The DoD Y2K management Plan states that the DoD Chief Information Officer has overall responsibility for overseeing the DoD solution to the Y2K problem.
