South-North Migration: A Challenge for Mediterranean Basin Security

摘要

The societal gap between both sides of the Mediterranean Sea is huge while the narrowest point between the two worlds is only 14 kilometers and kilometers (Gibraltar strait). The prospective of the current situation might be a massive migration from the southern bank to North. This social trend trying to fill the gap between the two worlds is becoming a serious challenge for the security and stability of the region. This paper gets through the implications on the stability of the region of the increasing immigration in Europe from the Maghreb. The main question is if military would be involved in the problem and the consequences of this involvement in the future of the region.
