This report presents the results of ongoing theoretical and experimental work toward reducing the sensitivity of crystal resonators to vibration and other accelerations. Strip resonators were the chosen embodiment, and extensive finite element analysis was performed on various electrode configurations and cantilever extensions of the crystal blank beyond the supports. Measurements on resonators fabricated following theoretical designs have shown that acceleration sensitivity has been reduced by an order of magnitude, to one tenth part per billion per g. There are indications that the techniques reported here can yield another order of magnitude improvement. Theory, finite element analysis, design approach, construction details, and test results are presented.
