摘要

1,2-Ethanedithiol and 1,3-propanedithiol have been shown to be effective derivatizing reagents for the chemical agent lewisite and its hydrolysate, 2-chlorovinylarsonous acid (CVAA). Because of its sensitivity and specificity, gas chromatography is one of the current methods used to quantify CVAA and the 1,2 -ethanedithiol adduct of lewisite. The use of functionalized dithiols will have broad applications as a derivatizing reagents, and the adducts can be detected and quantified by other analytical techniques under milder and more sensitive conditions. This report describes the synthesis of functionalized 1,3-propanedithiol and its reaction with phenyldichloroarsine, a simulant of lewisite, to form the cyclized adducts.
