摘要

Approved for public release; distribution unlimited. 13 ABSTRACT (maximum 200 words) Although many studies and experiments have been performed over many years to establish the toxicity of chemical weapons agents, estimates of lethal and effective dosages vary considerably. A recent study by the US Army reviewed all available past data and recommended a set of lethality values. This study was reviewed by the National Research Council, which proposed changes to some of the recommendations of the Army study. Because a consistent, agreed-upon set of toxicity values is vital to the development of chemical defensive measures, the US Army Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations sponsored a workshop at the Institute for Defense Analyses that brought together key representatives of the chemical defense community to reach a consensus on interim toxicity values for the agents GA, GB, GD, GF, VX, and HD. The results of this workshop are summarized in this document.
