摘要

The approach for obtaining absorbance and transmittance spectra using a passive 3 to 5 micron Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer from two industrial stacks is documented. Independent knowledge of the stack plume temperature is key to generation of the single beam spectral ratio of differences that allows removal of instrumental effects from the absorbance and transmittance spectra. The empirical results are illustrated for two types of industrial stack in the form of summary graphs and tables. Appendixes in this report supply representative spectral data that is acquired with the 3 to 5 micron passive FT-IR spectrometer. Target plume constituents of sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide are discussed.
