摘要

Report developed under STTR contract for topic Army00-T006. Agentase LLC has effectively incorporated toxin-degrading enzymes within polymer gels that can be directly attached to skin tissue. Enzyme activity retention and catalyst stability within polymers exceeds predetermined goals, as do the mechanical and adhesive strengths of enzyme-containing materials. The multi- point chemical attachment of enzymes within the polymer network ensures long- term retention of polymerized proteins within the material. Preliminary results also suggest that the incorporation of enzymes within such polymers reduces immunogenic and allergenic responses that are often observed when applying protein-based materials on skin tissue. Resulting polymers have been shown to protect underlying skin tissue from applied toxins. Because the developed polymer chemistry is compatible with many different enzyme, it has many potential uses that range from a topical skin protectant to a wound sealant that facilitates healing.
