Australian Defence Force Physical Training Instructors Occupational Analysis Survey

The Occupational Analysis Section within the Directorate of Strategic Personnel Planning and Research (DSPPR), DPE conducted an Occupational Analysis (OA) survey of the Australian Defense Force (ADF) Physical Training Instructors (PTI). The survey was designed to collect data to assist the ADF Physical Training School (ADFPTS) by validating current training as well as identify the current tasks performed by PTIs and assist in identifying the work structure of each of the Services. For many years, the ADFPTS has provided training to ADF PTIs. The analysis has provided a tri-Service Occupational Structure and analysis, as well as an Occupational Structure and analysis for each of the Services. This is to fully identify the similarities as well as the differences between the activities and perceptions of PTIs as a group and within each of the Services. The questionnaire was developed in conjunction with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) primarily through a three day panel, with subsequent validation by members currently working as PTIs. The final questionnaire included eleven duty areas containing 671 tasks, with a number of additional Background Information (BI) questions. The tasks included not only the specific Physical Training related tasks performed by most PTIs, but attempted to include the whole range of tasks performed as members of the ADF so that a full understanding of the current activities of ADF PTIs could be developed.
