Identifying and Eliminating Sources of Anti-Americanism and Terrorism

Since before September II, experts on Arab/Muslim affairs, on terrorism, and on international affairs in general have been writing on the sources of anti-Americanism and terrorism in the Arab/Muslim world. They differ on the most important factors behind the creation of Al Qaeda and other extremist Islamist networks, with some focusing on problems of Arab/Muslim culture and governance, and others on U.S. policies in the region and arrogance in dealing with Arab countries. During 2003 three major polling organizations conducted extensive surveys that shed considerable light on attitudes in the Arab and Islamic world and in other countries that are useful for examining some of the theories of the academics and pundits, and that merit further study for policy decisions. In my SRP I will analyze these arguments and attempt to draw conclusions about the most effective political/diplomatic strategy the U.S. can develop in order to eliminate or at least mitigate these sources of anti- Americanism and terrorism.
