The high incidence of bronchial asthma (BA), especially in children and adolescents, points to the possible influence of multiple factors in the etiology of the disease. At present, it is widely recognized that hereditary predisposition is the main factor for the formation of BA, however, heredity cannot play the only role. There is a need for an integrative study of the eco- genetic characteristics of BA. However, a unified assessment system for the cumulative impact of ecological and endogenous factors in BA does not yet exist. The authors created a unified assessment system for BA based on ecological, onto-genetic, clinical-laboratory, genotype, and phenotype predictors. The study was conducted to obtain more information on the causes of the high morbidity in military personnel in the Georgian Armed Forces, especially the high incidence of allergic diseases like bronchial asthma. The study included 184 families, including 171 adolescents and young adults with bronchial asthma, 26 siblings, and 295 parents. The study gathered information on subjects' allergies, immune status, genealogy, genotype markers, and phenotype markers. The latter included morphology, physiology, ear wax type, and stigmas. The resulting automated assessment system will allow the processing of personal data on genotypic and phenotypic characteristics and the creation of economical diagnosis and prevention of BA based on formalized cards. The analysis of the data obtained shows a significant relationship between the increasing prevalence of allergic diseases in children and chemical air pollution intensity.
