The primary objective of this test series was to evaluate the response of the current Navy magazine detection system to adjacent-space fires and fires within a small and medium magazine. The response of the detection system was compared to the heat build-up within the magazine and to the thermal response of mock ordnance exposed to the heated bulkhead and in-space fires. This report presents the results of these tests. The preliminary conclusion is that ordnance exposed to adjacent-space and in-space fires are at risk of exceeding high temperatures prior to the activation of the current Navy magazine detection system. For in-space fires of 25 kW (i.e., a small office trash can) and 100 kW, the magazine HSD detection system did not alarm.
