Analysis of the Deployed Military Health Information System and Its Ability to Satisfy Requirements of Public Law 105-85, Section 765

The Department of Defense (DoD) is undergoing tremendous change in the manner in which it is documenting, tracking, and reporting patient encounter information within the entire Military Health System (MHS). The MHS has major deficiencies in medical record keeping and reporting the medical condition of military personnel serving in deployed locations. As health care leaders in the MRS, we have an obligation both professionally and ethically to ensure that our deployed personnel are given the best possible health care. The information obtained in this analysis will be used to further identify the strengths and weaknesses of the deployed medical information systems in the MRS and determine the ability of the MRS to meet the requirements of Public Law 105- 85.
