Coherent Seeker Guided Antiship Missile Performance Analysis

The performance capability of an antiship missile's radar guidance system can be rated by the ratio of the processed signal level to the interference or noise level. In this report, the general performance capability is evaluated for missiles guided via noncoherent radar and for missiles guided via coherent radar. The contribution of several coherent aspects are compared including interpulse, intrapulse, and beam sharpening. Potential improvement of as much as 15 to 20 dB are indicated. A brief derivation of a useful representation of the processed signals is presented that describes the potential usefulness of Space-Time Adaptive Processing.
