Bonded Repair of a Gun Carriage Using Electroformed Nickel Reinforcements

A repair technology based on the use of adhesively bonded electroformed nickel reinforcements was successfully developed to repair the trails of light field guns operated by ADF that had been damaged by fretting or mechanical contact in service. The success was judged by the measured reduction in strain in the reinforced regions (approximately 40%) and the durability of these repairs in service over a period exceeding five years, including three years of active field exercises in a humid tropical environment.
