Ballistic Transparent Armor Testing Using A Multi-Hit Rifle Pattern

Currently, the United States Army does not have a ballistic standard for measuring the multi-hit performance of its transparent armor (TA). The results of this testing may aid in the establishment of a ballistic performance standard. A draft TACOM Transparent Armor Purchase Document (ATPD 2352) has been written based on early testing. This study adds data to validate the outlined ballistic testing method and conformance of the TA to the light transmission requirements. This information is pertinent to the development of new solutions (e.g. recipes of glass laminations) that may further improve the protection of occupants of U.S. Army vehicles.
