Coal/Biomass-to-Liquids Demonstration Testing for DLA Energy: Report on Project Tests, Evaluations, and Recommendations.

This project conducted testing to assess whether liquid fuel can be produced commercially from coal and biomass mixtures while meeting the requirements of Section 526, which requires that GHG emissions from alternative fuels purchased by federal agencies be less than or equal to emissions from conventional petroleum fuel. This report describes the wide variety of gasification equipment, coals, and biomass used, and reports and analyzes the test results. Additionally, the team worked with DOE NETL to conduct life cycle and economic analyses of the demonstration scale test results applied to commercial scale production, with the goal of demonstrating the capability of CBTL to meet Section 526.
