The purpose of this project is to gain practical experience with designing and implementing a secure distributed storage system. In particular, this project investigated the various relevant topics. We sought to identify the hard problems in combining usability with security. Typically ease of use, convenience, any time anywhere access and security are contradicting requirements. We sought to understand how this is best approached. Further we endeavor to understand whether today's state-of-the-art is sufficient. A number of secure systems with secure sharing have been built, or are being built. However, no system is in practical widespread use. Does this mean there are unsolved problems, and if yes, what are they. For obvious security reasons, large organizations require review and certification of all software installed on laptops and PC's (Personal Computers). Is zero footprint web access a practical solution. Zero footprint web access makes this costly and time consuming process unnecessary because it runs entirely in an existing browser environment which has already been certified by most organizations.
