History of Force Management Education at the Command and General Staff Officers Course

The Command and General Staff Officer's Course (CGSOC) has undergone many changes since its inception in 1881, and its curriculum has changed to reflect the evolving focus of the Army. While tactics, logistics, and history have been mainstay subjects since the beginning, the study of topics relating to the field of force management did not really start to appear until almost 50 years after the college opened and have waxed and waned based on Department of Defense and Fort Leavenworth leaders' priority areas.
