Role of Trans-Atlantic Defense Alliances in a Globalizing World

摘要

The purpose of this analysis is to discuss the importance of linkages between U.S. and European defense manufacturers with the emergence of the common global threat of terrorism, the greater price sensitivity of governments concerning weapon systems costs, and the shrinkage of defense budgets. The paper discusses the reasons behind the formation of alliances between U.S. and European defense contractors, examines several case studies of alliances, assesses some of the patterns in alliance formation, and analyzes the potential for trans-Atlantic alliances between defense contractors in the future. The presentation includes 22 briefing charts.
