Vitamin D, Breast Cancer, and Bone Health

This is a multidisciplinary postdoctoral award investigating the role of vitamin D in aromatase inhibitor-induced osteoporosis in breast cancer, supporting studies in basic science, clinical research and epidemiology. During the reporting period, we intensified our efforts to recruit subjects to the clinical trial at Stanford Cancer Center. In addition, we explored collaborations with other academic institutions and local oncology practices to boost enrollment. Unfortunately, the collaborations did not materialize due to financial and time constraints of the award. The trial recently had to be closed due to low recruitment and no analysis can be done on the limited data. A revised statement of work has been submitted and accepted by the DoD in which SEER-Medicare dataset outcomes analysis replaced the basic science component of the award.
