Development of Insect Proof Bin Tag

The species of insect causing the damage to bin tags found at the U. S. Naval Supply Depot, Guam M. I., was determined to be 'silverfish' (genus Lepisma, esp. L. saccarina). A protective plastic coating containing 4 per cent chlordane by weight of the total formulation has been recommended as a solution to the problem by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, Division of Stored Product Insect Investigations. The suggested formulation is prepared for 'aerosol bomb' application and may be obtained commercially. It is recommended that the formulation be subjected to appropriate service tests in the field for final evaluation. The details of this formulation and a recommended method of application are included.
