The investigation to be described was undertaken at the request of Professor Harold A. Ohlgren as part of Engineering Research Institute Project 2240. The specific purposes of the investigation were to evaluate the following aspects of the dissolution of two-component alloy samples: (1) Effect of nitric acid concentration on the rate of dissolution of alloy samples. (2) Effect of hydrofluoric acid as a catalyst on the nitric acid dissolution process. (3) Dissolution kinetics at optimum nitric acid concentrations. (4) Effect of dissolved iron on the dissolution kinetics. (5) Extent of the acid-insoluble material produced in the dissolution experiments. jg p.5.
