PRACTICAL METHODS FOR SOLVING FLOW NETWORKS

This Note is concerned with the rapid analysis of flow networks to an accuracy consistent with that inherent in the data on friction losses (flow ± 5％, heads ± 10％). The use of a square-law friction formula is shown to be ade¬quate and a table of resistance coefficients is presented enabling the loss through standard sizes of common pipes and fittings to be read off directly.nThe numerical analysis of networks is described and illustrated by examples;they range from simple series and parallel arrangements capable of direct solution to systems containing several pumps and differences in elevation to which the Hardy Cross step-by-step method has to be applied.
