摘要

The report describes improvements in ultrasonic flaw detection developed by Glass Developments Limited. It describes the methods evolved for more reliable testing of billets, and the extension of these to tackle new materials including cast iron, copper, refractory blocks, and brass billets, which were previously impossible or difficult to inspect with ultrasonics.nThe techniques include the successful development of barium titanate probes giving increased output and greater resolving power than is possible with quartz, and the design of variable angle probes which have proved extremely useful in identifying serious flaws.
