INTERFERENCE EFFECTS IN THE ESTIMATION OF SODIUM AND POTASSIUM IN CEMENTS USING AN 'EEL' FLAME PHOTOMETER

The effects of the cations and anions present, in a hydrochloric acid solution of cement on the flame emission of sodium and potassium have been investi¬gated, No effect is noted on potassium flame emission. The enhancement of emitted light by calcium is affected by the silica and alumina present. A complete suppression of this enhance¬ment can be made with high alumina concentrations, enabling alkalis to be determined rapidly.
