In the proposed reconstruction of the_ ventilating system for Stafford Colliery two existing shafts, the Homer and Sutherland shafts, 150 feet apart are to be used for upcast air and connected to a common fan. A stand-by fan is to be provided, but only one fan will be in use at one time and provision has to be made to seal off the connection to the fan not in use.nIt is understood that in each shaft there will be one cage and a balance weight, the cage running in the centre of the shaft and the balance weight running in the side of the shaft remote from the drift mouthing, and that the cages will enter a G.H.H. airlock installed at the top of each shaft.nThe scheme is designed for a maximum quantity of air entering the fan of approximately 1 000 000 cu. ft/min., divided equally between the two shafts.
