This document explains the Charpy V-notch impact test. The purpose and theory of the test, the design of both test machine and specimen, calibration of the machine, how to conduct the test, and the variables which affect results are described. Also included is the procedure to be followed by those wishing to have their machines certified as acceptable for Ordnance Corps inspection testing.
