DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURES AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE SUPPRESSION AND MITIGATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE VOLTAGES CLASS TO ACCEPTABLE LEVELS

This report presents design and construction considerations necessary to achieve low levels of inherent interference;and also maintenance and investigation procedures required to prevent or eliminate specific sources of interference. This report is applicable to lines of 69 Kv to 132 Kv.nAll available published studies by others as well as the knowledge gained from Phases I, II, III and IV of Contract No. NOy-88454 and Phases II and III of Contract NBy-17792 were utilized in performing this study. A review of Electric Power Utilities design, construction and maintenance procedures was also made and utilized in determining the recommendations of this report. The procedure and equipment were determined from the above study and review for the suppression and mitigation of electromagnetic interference from overhead transmission lines. The conclusions of this report indicate that these methods and procedures to limit the interference from overhead lines to the acceptable level established in Phase III of this contract, are desirable, feasible, and economically Justifiable. For many progressive utility companies, techniques of interference reduction are routine operations. These techniques of interference reduction are:n1. Proper selection and testing of materials.n2. Proper construction practices.n3. "Proper maintenance procedures.
