摘要

The previous report showed that, in the majority of normal operating conditions,' there is sufficient rotational flow in the mass of water approaching the intakes to give rise to the possibility of the formation of air-entraining vortices on the prototype, and that if they are found to occur on the prototype, a vertical wall above the upper lip of the intake, extending to the height at which they first occur, would eliminate air-entrainment.nThis suggestion, had it been adopted, had the merit that a full scale check on the model results could have been made over a wide range of water levels and velocities and would have provided information on scale effects, of great value in future designs.
