The report gives an account of modifications made to a commercial refrigerator to enable it to be used for the British Standard freeze-thaw test on soil-cement specimens (described in B.S.1924 :1957).nThe refrigerator on which modifications were made was of the type normally used for the storage of ice-cream or frozen foods. The storage -temperature had to be raised to -5°C and brine tanks were installed to reduce fluctuations of temperature.nThe equipment has now been in continuous use -for three months and during this period the required temperature has been maintained in the storage chamber.
