PHASE TRANSFORMATIONS IN A URANIUM - ZIRCONIUM ALLOY CONTAINING 2 WEIGHT PER CENT ZIRCONIUM

The phase transformations in a uranium-zirconium alloy containing 2 weight percent zirconium have been examined metallographically after heat treatments involving isothermal transformation of y and cooling from the y-range at different rates. Transformations on heating and cooling have also been studied in uranium-zirconium alloys with 0. 5, 2 and 5 weight per cent zirconium by means of differential thermal analysis. The results are compatible with the phase diagram given by Hewitt and Knapton (l).
