This paper features the application of statistics and probability to systems work by way of an example. The system chosen to illustrate such applications of statistical design is a particular statistical decision mechanism, called the mechanized radar observer. The particular fields of statistics and probability which were used in the design of this machine are discussed herein. (Author)
